Our toddler room is a language rich environment, designed to accommodate children at an age when they are exploring their ability to communicate and assert their independence and individuality on different environments. Each day, several activities take place involving commenting on a child’s interests and frequent reading sessions engaging them in stories, rhymes and poems. This is combined with sensitive questioning, that invites expression and encourages children to elaborate and become comfortable using a wider range of language structures to communicate.
We understand changes in moods, interests and capabilities of children at this age and the importance of strong, supportive relationships with practitioners to enable children to learn how to understand their feelings and those of others. Staff support positive interactions among children so they learn how to make good friendships, co-operate and resolve conflicts peaceably; attributes we believe provide a secure platform from which children can achieve throughout their life.
